Taylor Foundation Establishes Primary Care Scholarship

The Patrick F. Taylor Foundation partnered with Dr. Steve Nelson, Dean of the LSU School of Medicine to offer a new Scholarship for Primary Care. It was established to help ensure an adequate supply of exemplary physicians who live and practice Primary Care in Louisiana. Qualifying students are high-achieving individuals committed to providing such care to populations in the state of Louisiana and are entering their third and/or fourth year of medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine in New Orleans. Students participating in the Program receive a scholarship award consisting of a tuition waiver in the amount of $25,000.00 for tuition in the third or fourth years of medical school (or both). In exchange for the award (s), and upon completing appropriate postgraduate training and satisfying applicable licensure requirements as identified below, participating students must practice twenty-four (24) consecutive months of Primary Care in Louisiana for each academic year the tuition waiver is received. Applications for the award are open to LSU’s current L3 medical students and are available at the Family Medicine website http://www.medschool.lsuhsc.edu/family_medicine/. Applications should be returned by October 15, 2014 to Family Medicine at kmart7@lsushsc.edu.
